“On The Pitch” - Adebayor’s Kiss, Wenger on the Transfer Market, and Alonso/Barry rumours

Hello all hope you’ve had a good day so far. Every once in a while a friend of mine, AP, will be sharing his thoughts in a column were calling, “On The Pitch”. Today is the inaugural post, and we hope you will share your thoughts with us in the comments section! Here we go…

Ah, another beautiful Monday... well not really, who likes Mondays? Anyways let’s get down to business. We all saw yesterday how Adebayor thought that by kissing the badge after his penalty that his love with Arsenal has come back. I’m sorry lad, but it’ll take a bit more from you then to score in a friendly and come running to us kissing the badge that you almost left this summer. Although, I have to say that the work that he put in yesterday was great, he showed that he wanted to make up for all the crap that has been going on through the transfer speculation. Wenger had a few thoughts to say about the way Ade played and how he can re-kindle his connection with the fans:

“He felt that people had questioned his commitment and the best answer to that is to give your all on the pitch. He is a man of character. You know how it is, if you score goals people quickly forget the frustration.”

I do agree with Wenger on that one, the more goals Adebayor scores, the more quickly the fans will forgive him. We all want a lot of goals from him this season and we hope for a repeat of last season. Ade, score some goals! If he really is a man of character, he’s bound to show it this season.

Now onto the transfer market talk. We have all heard Arsene Wenger talk about how he wants to have one more experienced player on the squad. But the latest news shows that he has nobody in mind yet. He has come straight out and said that he is not close to signing anybody. But we all know Wenger is the type to not show his cards, so we’ll see what happens in the upcoming weeks. He also gave a little hint that even if the Goons don’t find a more experienced player, he might give one of the young guns a chance to shine, what do you guys think about that?

Some reports this morning are suggesting we are not going to make a bid for Barry, but are lining up a bid for Liverpool’s Alonso.

Wenger had this to say:

"I don't know if Gareth Barry will leave Aston Villa or not, but I am not on his case. I like Gareth Barry and I like two or three other players. It is better I don't speak about names, I said that yesterday. It is better I leave things to your imagination and creation. I cannot tell you anything more. If we sign a player we will come out and tell you, but I can say to you now that we are not close to signing anybody."
If Liverpool are going to get Barry they will need to sell first. Perhaps we can get Alonso for cheap, maybe 12-14 million. There are a lot of options though so we’ll see what Wenger has in mind for the month ahead before the transfer deadline. Anyways, that’s all for today lads. Leave your comments on who you feel we should sign. Alonso, Barry, possibly Veloso. Or maybe you have another player in mind, share your thoughts!

Personally I would go for Veloso.Alonso isnt good enough for Liverpool so he shouldn't be good enough for us.
