We faced FC Twente in the first leg of Champions League qualification yesterday. Not a great game to watch and a terrible performance overall, but a win is a win I guess...You can download the goals below (courtesy of serbian_gunner)
The scoreline is very flattering for us and isn't very reflective of the game. You won't hear any complaints from me though since these are the type of games we need to win. We should have no trouble finishing the tie off at home though so qualification shouldn't be a problem.
A few opinions of the match...I think this game highlights the fact that we need to bring in a new CM. Denilson just can't boss the midfield the way Flamini could, and the way Arsenal needs. FC Twente totally dominated us in the first half and our inexperience in the midfield really showed. Gallas continues to put in shit performances and this will continue all season surely. Clichy and Sagna were out of sorts today, but I'm not to worried about that. Ramsey was lucky to get a chance to start in a meaningful game but didn't grab the opportunity to impress.
You can see Wenger's thoughts on the match here.
Outside of the game there's not much to tell...
Xabi Alonso and Yaya Toure both played in their team's CL Qualifiers so they won't be options for us since they are cup tied. I guess that only leaves Inler as a realistic target.
Some talk in the news about Man Utd wanting Henry...I agree with the boss, there is no chance, and if he does come back to England it will be with Arsenal. It is probably a smoke screen though since their main target is Berbatov and apparently Spurs have accepted Utd's bid for him. But who knows what will happen there.
We have West Brom Saturday morning kicking off the new Premier League season. Should be no trouble since we are playing at home, but our performance has to be better than yesterday if we want to get off to a good start for the year.
That's all for today
